「EP28 · Academic Exchange Visit」—— TRANS Group Visited Professor Zhi Cao’s Team at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University

On the afternoon of May 30, 2025, Prof. Shiqi Ou, Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Shuyan Jiang, and PhD student Ms. Lanxin Shi from the TRANS group visited Prof. Zhi Cao’s team at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University, for a focused academic exchange on key technologies and policies for carbon neutrality.

Prof. Cao’s team specializes in advancing material flow analysis and sustainability assessment methods to study the flow, transformation, accumulation, and disposal of materials in socio-economic systems. Their research spans topics such as global and regional demand for cement and construction materials, the low-carbon development of built environments and infrastructure, urban mining potential, and the impact of emerging energy technologies on critical material supply.

During the exchange, Prof. Ou delivered a talk titled “Forecast-Driven Evaluation of Energy Policy Effectiveness in Transport Energy Transitions”, highlighting the challenges and approaches toward achieving low-carbon targets in the transportation field. He further explored the evolution of policies, technological transformations, and carbon impact assessments in China’s auto industry under the dual-carbon strategy. The presentation sparked great interest and in-depth discussions among attendees. In the interactive session, both teams engaged in lively debate on passenger vehicle decarbonization pathways, battery health, and carbon life-cycle assessments, reflecting a strong academic atmosphere.

After the academic exchange, the TRANS group, led by Prof. Cao, toured the Jinnan Campus of Nankai University to gain a deeper understanding of the campus environment and research facilities.
