「EP07·Academic Exchange Visit」 – TRANSLAB Visits the Institute of Economic and Social Development at Nankai University for Academic Exchange

On December 12, 2024, Professor Shiqi Ou and doctoral students Hao Jing and Hao Qi from the TRANS Research Group visited the Institute of Economic and Social Development at Nankai University for an in-depth academic exchange.

The Institute of Economic and Social Development at Nankai University, established in 1998, is a research and teaching unit directly affiliated with Nankai University. Covering multiple disciplines such as economics, management, social sciences, and finance, the institute upholds the motto of “Seeking truth from facts and keeping pace with the times.” It is committed to promoting interdisciplinary research, nurturing emerging disciplines, serving society, and continually exploring new institutional frameworks for university research, teaching, and administrative management. The institute offers three academic master’s degree programs in Industrial Economics, Regional Economics, and Logistics and a master’s degree program in Logistics Engineering. Its doctoral programs cover regional economics, industrial economics, and logistics, and it has two postdoctoral research stations in applied economics and management science and engineering. As a key support for the construction of Nankai University’s first-class discipline in Applied Economics, the Institute of Economic and Social Development at Nankai University strives to balance innovative economic theories with the development of social service functions, aiming to produce a series of landmark achievements with outstanding theoretical and practical value. The institute not only pursues excellence in academic research but also seeks to integrate academic achievements with social practices, actively participating in the sustainable development of the national and regional economies by providing scientific bases for policy-making, social development, and regional construction.

The academic exchange, themed “Regional Economics,” focused on topics such as “Smart Logistics serving society and logistics enterprises, macro policy mechanisms, and low-carbon logistics.” Vice Dean Liu Weilin and other experts from the Institute of Economic and Social Development at Nankai University engaged in fruitful discussions with members of the TRANS Research Group, emphasizing technological innovations in smart logistics, policy guidance for low-carbon logistics, and how macroeconomic policies can promote the green transformation of the logistics industry. Participants unanimously agreed that the innovative applications of smart logistics and low-carbon logistics will be key to the sustainable development of regional economies, and developing policy frameworks and technological pathways for green transformation is a crucial topic for the present and future.
