From December 27 to December 29, 2024, the “National Natural Science Foundation of China Transportation and Carrying Engineering Discipline Development Strategy Forum,” guided by the Department of Engineering and Materials Science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, jointly hosted by Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, Chang’an University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University, was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi. This forum attracted over 1,500 experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, and corporate entities nationwide. Professor Zhenhong Lin, Professor Haobo Dong, Professor Shiqi Ou from the TRANSLAB, and PhD student Lanxin Shi from the 2024 cohort attended the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the theme “Keeping Pace with the Times, Cross-disciplinary Integration, System Innovation, Leading the Future,” the forum included a grand opening ceremony, keynote speeches, specialized topic reports, and closed-door meetings. It aimed to respond to the strategic goal of accelerating the construction of a strong transportation country, meet the development needs of transportation under Chinese-style modernization, and focus on the forefront exploration and strategic layout of the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Transportation and Carrying Engineering (E12) discipline. It aimed to consolidate the strength of disciplinary development, plan a disciplinary strategic layout, promote cross-disciplinary innovation, and empower the development of new quality productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the keynote speech session, several heavyweight guests elaborated on topics such as innovative heavy-duty vehicle design and control technology, new space transfer transport systems with on-track refueling, virtual-physical integrated autonomous driving test technology, optimization of codes in transportation and carrying engineering disciplines, and discipline development strategies. This provided attendees with a broad academic perspective and valuable inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2728 Special Reports and Parallel Meeting Learning and Insights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The special report session took place on the afternoon of December 28. Participating experts engaged in in-depth discussions on various subfields such as rail, water, aviation, space, and pipeline transportation. They systematically reviewed the cutting-edge dynamics, key technological breakthroughs, and future development trends in the transportation and carrying engineering discipline. Scholars deepened their understanding of core issues in various fields through multidimensional exploration and interdisciplinary dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parallel meeting held on the morning of December 29 also focused on road, rail, aviation, space, water, and comprehensive transportation directions. It conducted systematic discussions on topics such as optimizing and adjusting discipline codes, the connotation and extension of research directions, keyword optimization, and major project planning. Experts from different professional backgrounds fully exchanged research ideas, practical experiences, and cutting-edge demands in their respective fields, forming a clearer consensus on promoting interdisciplinary integration and accelerating the transformation of research outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this forum, the TRANS Research Group gained a clearer understanding of the research focus and development direction in the transportation and carrying engineering field in the “14th Five-Year Plan” period. They deeply recognized the critical significance of interdisciplinary integration and serving national strategic needs. In the future, the TRANS Research Group will continue to monitor the forefront dynamics in transportation and carrying, actively engage in interdisciplinary cooperation while advancing research work, and contribute more to the construction of a strong transportation country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
