From December 13th to December 15th, 2024, the “2024 Young Scholars Forum in Road Traffic and Integrated Transport Field” was held in Guangzhou, co-sponsored by the Department of Engineering and Materials Science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the China Intelligent Transportation Association, South China University of Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, and Jiangsu University. The “Strategic Guidance for Development, Demand-Driven Talent Cultivation” forum included an opening ceremony, keynote forum, Forum A, Forum B, and a face-to-face\/young scholar\/regional fund topic exchange meeting. It aimed to meet the development needs of the road traffic and integrated transport fields under the new situation and promote the construction of an outstanding young talent team in the discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Shiqi Ou of the TRANS Research Group, along with doctoral students Lanxin Shi, Hao Qi, and Hao Jing from the 2024 class, master’s student Yongjian Chen from the 2025 class, and other teachers and students from the School of Future Technology, attended the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2728 Keynote Forum Learning and Insights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the keynote forum, several senior transportation and vehicle engineering experts were invited to discuss industry trends, technological frontiers, and typical research cases related to road traffic and integrated transport. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including “Some Understandings of Current Development of Highway Traffic Technology,” “Ensuring Airport Runway Performance under Harsh Conditions,” “Key Technological Challenges in Digital Twin Cities and Traffic System Construction,” “Comprehensive Research on Multi-network Integration in Stereoscopic Transport\u2014Taking Comprehensive Passenger Transport Hubs and Pipeline Network Integrated Transport Scenarios as Examples,” “Technology Leads the Innovation and Development of Smart Civil Aviation,” and “Operation Organization and Optimization of Mountainous Urban Public Transport,” among others. These presentations analyzed in depth the challenges and opportunities facing the field of transportation and vehicle engineering, providing valuable theoretical references and practical application insights to the young scholars in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Shiqi Ou of the TRANS Research Group delivered a keynote report titled “Dynamic Modeling and Intelligent Optimization of Energy-Integrated Transport Power Systems” at Forum A (Parallel Forum 2). The report comprehensively introduced the TRANS Research Group’s relevant academic achievements in the field of energy integration over the past year and shared its research plans for the future. Experts in attendance provided valuable suggestions, recommending further focus on the most highlighted research content in the main academic achievements and organically integrating them into the planned research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2728 Face-to-Face\/Young Scholar\/Regional Fund Topic Exchange Meeting Learning and Insights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the face-to-face\/young scholar\/regional fund topic exchange meeting, experts analyzed the importance of fund topics, offering valuable advice to the young scholars in attendance. They emphasized that selecting the right topic is crucial for fund applications! Topics should closely align with national needs and adhere to the principles of demand-driven and problem-oriented research rather than being solely method-driven. Young scholars should actively observe and contemplate practical problems in their daily research, deeply understand industry pain points, and form feasible research strategies. Additionally, experts suggested that young scholars engage in industry practices, expand their horizons through cross-disciplinary cooperation, and find innovative breakthroughs through combining theory and practice. This helps uncover meaningful research problems and enhances the practical value and social impact of research results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this forum, the TRANS Research Group gained a deeper understanding of the cutting-edge research directions in transportation and vehicle engineering funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, broadened their academic horizons, and injected new innovative ideas and vitality into their future research endeavors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
